an unexpected journey...

I'm feeling a little like Bilbo Baggins these days... heading out on a trip I never expected to take. After seeing so many beautiful scrappy trip around the world quilts here in blogland, I decided to jump on board. A mid winter vacation sounds great right about now!

Step one... sort through the scrap bins...
Iron and cut...

Sew and crosscut...
Unpick and open...
Arrange and sew into block...
Voila!
My first nine blocks... so far, I'm loving the journey...
...in fact, I'm loving it so much that I started another version, using this jelly roll... Autumn Journey. Appropriate name don't you think?
And here are my first five blocks using the jelly roll. I found the scrappy version much easier to piece, although having the color palette pre-planned was fun too.
I love the warm colors... not just for Autumn!
Are you taking a scrappy trip around the world too? Jump on board, it's a lot of fun!

Very nice! if you use a jelly roll, how big will your quilt end up? I have been debating with myself over this 'trip'. ;-)

I am feeling the irresistible pull of this project. Too many others in line . . . must resist, maybe.

Oh wow! :0) Those are gorgeous! I am using scraps from a Seaside fat quarter bundle. :0) I only had enough for 12 blocks so this will be a short trip but I really want to make a larger one so we will see what I use next. :0) How many blocks will you make with your jelly roll? I have one also.

I've got my fabric strips cut for a scrappy version of this great quilt, but haven't done any sewing on it yet. It'll be half size - so I'm using 1-1/2" strips. FUN! I love both of yours

What a lovely blog. I am on a self imposed spending ban but I now need to sort 'unpick' and iron my stash then see what i can make with it all. xxx

I too have been putting together these blocks, using a slightly different method tho. I really like the autumn journey blocks. I read where someone said that sometime in the future someone will look at a scrappy trip quilt and say "Oh yes, everyone who could quilt made these in the first quarter of 2013!"
