club (and quilt) volleyball...

Back in November there were local tryouts for Club Volleyball and since it was such a popular thing, tryouts were closed early due to so many girls signing up. As a result of the early closure, Julianna missed out and was devastated. Fast forward a little, to the end of the school basketball season. I was talking with one of the moms after a game and it turned out that she is one of the club volleyball coaches. She requested that I let her take on Julianna for her team... for  practices only since she's not on the official roster, but she's to attend games and tournaments as manager. We jumped on it and have never looked back. I've attended most of the practices since I love to see Julianna play, and she's done her job well with stat keeping at the games. Last weekend a tournament was local, so I went along to cheer. Well, cheer I did. Our girls took first place after a 12 hour day, and several of the games were against older girls. It was awesome! (Please forgive the cell phone pics, but I really do want to share!)

And just this last weekend, we were given the chance to play in another tournament since a team had to back out. Well at this one, our girls were the youngest ones there and still scooped 5th place out of 18 teams... AND Julianna got to play. It was a good, good day. Another 12 hour day, but still very good. Here's a warm up shot... taken before Julianna gave me a scolding for taking pics...

And now since it's almost time to wrap up the season, I volunteered to make Nancy, our coach, a quilt that the girls will all sign for her. I just finished the top and am gearing up to quilt it. I searched through 5 different fabric stores (in two different countries!) to find the volleyball print... but all's well that ends well!
Now wish me luck on the quilting!

What a fantastic opportunity for your daughter and what a wonderful coach to have her join the team as a manager!

Congratulations to the team for their success!

I'm sure the coach is going to love her volleyball quilt! Great idea!
