my kitchen...

...is truly a labour of love! On December 22, 2007, Robyn and I looked at each other and said 'today's the day'... and this picture is what happened next. Yep, three days before Christmas we gave our old kitchen the heave-ho. Did THAT ever feel good!(Look at the floor alone!... can you blame us?) Now this is a project only for those who like a little chaos for the holidays and it's a good thing, because chaos is what we got! Robyn's parents visited that Christmas and we spent New Year's Eve scraping wallpaper... ahhh, good times! We lived, and I mean this in the most literal sense of the word, in the living room for the next three months. Our bookshelf became the pantry, and an old dresser held dishes and the toaster. And did I mention that I was away in Mexico for the week after Christmas...? My hubby did the entire job in his evenings and weekends after work and it's just one more reason he's an amazing man.

And now, a little more than two years later, I thought some official pics were in order! Can you see the sunlight streaming in the windows? It's another beautiful day in the Fraser Valley!

So what do you think? Worth the effort? I really love this room, especially my second hand sink and the beautiful windowsill Robyn built to accomodate the faucet. Do you have any before and after pics to share? I'd love to see them...

Wow! What a transformation, Kimberly! I love the colors and the whole warm and inviting feel of your "new" space. And your backsplash is exactly the one I've had my eye on.

And I had to laugh at your timing. Christmas often brings out the need to start something for us too. I painted the dining room in our old house two days before Christmas. And the kids playroom got its makeover here last year ... right before the tree went up.

Thanks for sharing your kitchen inspiration. Kinda makes me want to get cracking. Though I think our upstairs bathroom just jumped the list. Eventually we want to do a major reno in there, but that's going to take a while to save for. In the meantime, we need to at least make it pretty. I can't stand it anymore! It's just so sad looking in there.

Glad to know you guys are do-it-yourselfers too ;)

I love the new kitchen! That's a big project, for sure. We did that once...I hated it while the reno was being done but the end results were so worth it. (sorry, no
pictures!)
I also love the gifts you gave your parents. :)

Are you kidding me? It's absolutely gorgeous, Kimberly. I want a sink like yours.

It seems like it takes forever when things are under construction but wasn't it worth it when you look at the before and after?

It;s no wonder your daughters like to spend time in your kitchen. I would too!

Wow! That looks amazing! I love the back splash you put up. Is that tin?? It's just beautiful.

Everything looks beautiful and your husband is ingenious for creating the window sill around your faucet like that. that's the kind of faucet I'd like someday, and sink too! I really don't care for our kitchen sink and faucet at all but that's low on hubby priority list.

I just had to pop over after reading your comments on Colleens blog. I'm so glad I did. I'll be visiting again soon. Your blog is great.
Blessings to you~ Birgit
